Very nice, but NOT dishwasher safe!!

I’ve been looking for a storage container for my potatoes, onions and garlic for a long time, and these fit the bill perfectly! The onion one is smaller than I would have liked though and the potato bin is huge! I actually switched the two instead, I use the large bin for onions and the medium for fingerling potatoes. I pulled them out of the box and they were dirty, so as they stated they were dishwasher safe, I put them in and pressed start. Imagine my horror when I pull the bins out and notice that the vintage writing is squished, rubbed off, non existent! I now have PTTOES, Oions, Garic and some of the other words are gone as well. This could have at least been glazed on instead of a vinyl decal or instead do not put dishwasher safe on your packaging!!
I would recommend buying them, but HAND WASH ONLY! Wish I would have known that before I popped them in and wasted $89. I’m still using them, but I’m thinking about using a razor blade to take off the rest of the lettering and just having them be blank.

NOT Dishwasher Safe

I purchased the trio of large (Potatoes), medium (Onions), and small (Garlic) canisters. They were somewhat larger than I expected, so do pay attention to the dimensions; they are, however, nicely glazed and as attractive as pictured. They feel rather light for their size, which means that they are easily transported but may be fragile. My only disappointment thus far is that they are labeled “Dishwasher Safe” on the bottoms; but when I ran the small canister through the dishwasher, some of the lettering was lost. My canister now reads “GARLI”, and the word “California” and the year “1918″ also were stripped off.
The ceramic itself may be dishwasher safe, but the adhesive lettering is not.

I purchased all three sizes of the Fresh Valley Canisters (offered by the CHEFS catalog via amazon). After reading other reviews, I was concerned that the small (Garlic), medium (Onions), and large (Potatoes) would not look like a uniform set. I am happy to report that all three were of a similarly “distressed” cream color and the labeling was identical (brown). There were packed very well and arrived in perfect condition, and since I purchased all three, shipping was free (CHEFS catalog orders over 75$ are free). Because they are so attractive, they are a great storage solution if you (like me) have a pantry that is open to the rest of your kitchen. I absolutely would NOT put them in the dishwasher since other reviewers reported the labeling coming off. The labels stayed intact after handwashing them.
The reason I gave these canisters four stars instead of five is because I thought they were too expensive. I was willing to pay the price since they are the only ceramic canisters I’ve found that come in various sizes AND also have the air holes (very important for storage of your root vegetables). Another negative is that they were a lighter ceramic weight than I was expecting. I suspect they could break or chip easily if you aren’t careful.
Overall, they are beautiful and functional. Perfect for your pantry!
